How to Measure your cat for a cat collar

Materials:
non-stretchable cord, ribbon, or shoelace.

Heads UpSitting Down - Heads Up!
The best time to take your cat's neck measurements is when his/her head is up. When a cat's head is lowered the neck measurement will be smaller than when he/she is sitting with their head up. After dinner, when they are grooming themselves, would be an excellent time to take a cat's neck measurement.

Cats seem to be most comfortable when the collar sits just above their collar bone at the base of their neck. For that reason you wont want to measure the middle of their neck. It's uncomfortable for a cat to have the collar fitted around their Adams Apple. Notice how you would feel if you had constant pressure on your Adams apple. Notice how hard it would be to swallow too.

Please get an exact measurement of your cat's neck; remember: when they are sitting down with their heads UP; don't add any slack. When you have the shoelace "eared" you can place it over a ruler for your cat's true necksize. This is the size you will use to select a KBA collar. KBA collars have slack already calculated in. Excellent job.

(8 to 11" neck)
actual length 12 1/2 inches

FIT AND ADJUST your cat's collar

For Best Fit: Please make sure that your cats cannot get their chin or tongue under the collar while grooming themselves -- sitting down with their heads UP.

Please remember, cat collars are not necklaces.

If the collar is too loose when they are sitting down with their heads UP, it will end up in their mouth like a horse halter and frighten them.

The collar should be decently snug but not constricting. Please never adjust a cat's collar when his/her head is lowered.

Collars are naturally looser when your cat's head is lowered, so only check for appropriate snugness (fit) when their head is UP such as when they are grooming themselves - after dinner is a good time.

For Adjustment: Please buckle the collar before slipping it over their head to avoid unnecessary stress. To get a quick idea where to buckle the collar first, you can wrap the collar around the base of their neck (sitting with head UP) and then unwrap the collar and pre-buckle the collar to that length. There should be enough stretch to slip the collar on and off your cat's head without unbuckling it. Your'e all set. Nice job.
